July 3 (Friday)
4:00 PM to 5:00 PM- Frog Races
Find out interesting facts about frogs, then make one to race. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM- Bog Treasures
Enjoy a stroll on the boardwalk. Discover the unique plants and animals that make the bog their home. Meet at Boat Launch #3 on West Side Road.
7:30 PM to 8:30 PM- Bat Counts
Help count the bats that are exiting the bat boxes in search of food. Find out interesting facts about bats and get some plans to build your own bat boxes. Meet at the fishing pier on West Side Road.
July 4 (Saturday)
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM- Puzzles
Try to put the puzzles together of amphibians and reptiles, and find out interesting facts and myths. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM- Porky Porcupines
Discover where porcupines live and what they eat. Make a porcupine to take home with you. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM- Children’s Games
Play some games about camouflage and predator/prey relationships. Try your luck on the Magic Trail. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
5:00 PM to 6:00 PM- PA Snakes
Explore the world of these elusive reptiles. Discover which snakes live in PA, and how to tell a venomous snake from a non-venomous one. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
July 5 (Sunday)
8:00 PM to 10:00 PM- Thunder Full Moon Paddle
Why is the full moon in July called the Thunder Moon? Come to this fun program to find out. Paddle to campfire along the lake, where drinks and snacks will be available. Canoes and kayaks are available on a limited basis. Please pre-register at the park office by calling 814-342-5960 or email blackmoshannonee@state.pa.us. Fee: $6 per adult; $3 for children 12 and under. Not recommended for children under the age 7.
July 10 (Friday)
6:00 PM to 7:00 PM- Spiders
Find out what kinds of spiders live here in PA. Make a spider to take home with you. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
7:30 PM to 8:30 PM- Bat Counts

Discover what is was like to go to school during the Lumber Era. Try to play some of the popular games of the early 1900’s. Meet at the Schoolhouse near the concession stand.
5:00 PM to 6:00 PM- Snake Search
Look for the snakes in the woods with questions on them. Try to figure out the answers. Prizes will be awarded. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center.
7:00 PM to 8:00 PM- Life In The Moshannon Valley In The 1700’s
Join guest speaker, Joe Harding from Penn State University, for this unique program about the people who lived in this area in the 1700’s. Discover how they dressed, what they ate, and how they survived. Meet at the Amphitheater in the Campground.
July 12 (Sunday)
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM- Dragons and Damsels
Enjoy a pontoon ride while discovering the lives of dragonflies and damselflies. Let’s try to find some dragonflies and damselflies on the aquatic plants. PFD’s must be worn and will be provided. This is a first come first serve program due to the limited amount of seats. Age limit- 4 years and older. Meet at Boat Launch #1. Fee: $3 per person.
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM-Engineers of Black Moshannon Lake
Go for a ride on the pontoon boat and discover how beavers have played an important role in our heritage. See the beaver’s home up close. PFD’s must be worn and will be provided. This is a first come first serve program due to the limited amount of seats. Age limit- 4 years and older. Meet at Boat Launch #1. Fee: $3 per person.

7:00 PM to 8:00 PM- Life In The Moshannon Valley In The 1700’s

Explore the world of dragonflies and damselflies. Find out how to tell the difference between them. Meet at the Environmental Learning Center. Make a dragonfly window cling after the program. (will need to pick up the window cling on Saturday between 3:30 and 5:30)

8:00 PM to 9:30 PM- Night Fishing With The Naturalist
Enjoy a fun night fishing with the park naturalist. Find out some tips on how to catch fish at Black Moshannon Lake, and how to be a SMART angler. Fishing poles and tackle will be available if needed to borrow. Meet at Boat Launch #3 on West Side Road. Anyone 16 and older must have a valid PA fishing license to participate.
July 26 (Sunday) International Bog Day
